It’s time for your quarterly submissive review

You steps into the room, and immediately, I feel the shift — the quiet acknowledgement that I’m the one setting the pace here. The one who decides how this conversation unfolds.

“Have a seat,” I tell you, my voice calm, precise. It’s not about intimidation — it’s about clarity. About reminding both of us that, in this space, I’m the one accountable for results.

You sit, posture straight but just a little tense. I notice it — the hesitation before you speak — and I know you are measuring every word. I’ve learned to read people that way; it’s part of what makes me good at this.

I open your file, taking my time. Silence can be powerful. It gives me space to think — and you space to listen.

“You’ve done strong work this quarter,” I begin. “Reliable, consistent, and effective under pressure.” I pause, letting that acknowledgment settle before adding, “But I expect more. You’re capable of it.”

You eyes lift to meet mine — steady, searching. I hold the gaze, not flinching. This is the balance I’ve worked hard to master: confidence without cruelty, authority without arrogance.

“I want you to take more initiative,” I continue. “Lead, don’t just execute. You’ve earned the trust — now show me you know what to do with it.”

For a moment, the tension eases. Your shoulders drop slightly, and I can tell the message has landed — not as reprimand, but as challenge.

And that, more than anything, is what I enjoy: watching someone rise to meet the standard I set.
